But I just discovered this…
A fish filleting table |
My brother-in-law, Jeff, is an expert fisherman. This year he received this for Christmas. He calls it a fish filleting table. But at 44” x 24” x 37” high, (1120mm x 610mm x 940mm). I could immediately see other uses for it. Folding plastic tables are ten a penny these days. Often bought in dozens, (or even hundreds) by facilities, for whatever uses they are needed for. But as a regular table, they have a height of about 28 inches or so, and so are really too low for model railway use. At a show, I will stand my micro layouts on these facility provided tables, using the storage totes that I bring rolling stock and other necessary accoutrements for the show in to raise my layout up to a more comfortable height.
This is the first table that I had seen with a taller height for the top. It’s also quite sturdy. It could easily support a self-contained, cabinet sized, cameo layout at a show. It’s not a full chest or eye level height, but sits comfortably between that and the usual table top height. The only drawback being the $99.99 price tag on Amazon.
There seem to be other tables out there that are cheaper. Some are described as “fish cleaning stations”, and they seem to have small sinks moulded into the surface, whereas a filleting table doesn’t. I don’t know how a sink would affect using it as a model railway layout stand. Perhaps it might make a handy dandy place to store tools or loose electric cables when at a show.
I find the plain table quite interesting. Perhaps I’ll drop a hint for a present for my birthday.
